The meeting came amidst ongoing efforts to de-escalate border tensions, with both sides agreeing that the Special Representatives on the India-China boundary question will meet soon to further manage the situation in border areas. The leaders also reaffirmed the importance of finding a fair and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary dispute. Modi and Xi stressed that a stable relationship between India and China would benefit regional and global peace, contributing to a multi-polar Asia and a balanced world order.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the recent agreement that has led to the disengagement of forces in contested border areas, resolving tensions that arose in 2020. He emphasized that maintaining peace along the border should remain a priority for both nations. He further called for increased mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity as the foundation of the India-China relationship, expressing confidence that ongoing talks would continue with openness and goodwill.

During a media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri provided further details about the discussions between the two leaders. He noted that the meeting followed significant progress in diplomatic and military dialogues, which led to the resolution of several issues. Misri emphasized the role of Special Representatives in addressing the boundary question and underscored the positive impact that stable India-China relations could have on broader regional and global peace.

President Xi echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the two nations. He stressed the need for enhanced communication and collaboration, particularly in areas where India and China have shared development goals. Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to fostering a relationship based on mutual respect and addressing differences through dialogue.

Prime Minister Modi later shared his thoughts on social media, reiterating the importance of India-China relations not only for the two nations but also for global peace and stability. He underscored that mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity would continue to guide the bilateral relationship moving forward.

Both leaders agreed that the peaceful management of the boundary question and broader cooperation on global issues would ensure the long-term stability and prosperity of both countries. The meeting marks a step forward in efforts to rebuild trust and enhance diplomatic engagement between the two Asian giants.
